New Term 2015

NEW STUDENTS

Welcome to all our new students and their parents joining us this year.
Daniel Connolly, Niamh Connolly, Fionn Healy, Eoin Kelly, Oran Wheeler & Liam O'Brien.


 GRADUATION

We want to wish every success to the 6th class students who are beginning secondary school.  We look forward to seeing them visiting us in the future. 
Congraatulations to all our past pupils on their junior and leaving cert results.  We wish them every success for their future plans.




NEW TEACHER
 
We welcome Ms.Higgings to our staff.  She is teaching 2nd, 3rd and 4th class. 

GRANT
The school was very lucky to recieve a grant as part of the Summer Works SchemeThe work took place over the holidays and we are delighted with the water drainage, reseeding and resurfacing of the front yard.  This will help greatly with drainage and the overall appearance of our school.


 COMMUNION

Please note the date for Communion this year has been arranged for Sunday May the 15th.

SWIMMING

Swimming will take place after Christmas this year. 

WEDDING

We wish every happiness and good wishes to Ms. Fallon on her wedding day. 

 
ARMY VISIT

The army visited our school to present the National flag to us.  Rachel Murray & Tom Óg Reddington helped to read out a section of the Proclamation of Independence.  Along with all other schools in the country, we will raise the flag on March 16th 2016 to commemorate the centenary of the 1916  Rising.  
 
 FOOTBALL SKILLS

3 boys & 3 girls from 5th  & 6th class were picked to represet the school and county in a display of football skills.  Thanks to Jim and Mattie for bringing them to Ballyhaunis.  

ROAD SAFETY TALK

A guest speaker spoke to the children about road safety.  Most of the older children were surprised that they still need a booster seat and that drivers could recieve 3 penalty points if caught without it.
 

 GAA




The children put in a great effort to make signs and banners for the county final between St Ciarans and Glaveys.  Hard luck Fuerty.

News Letter 2015


Schools Tidy Towns


        Students from Fuerty National School all played their part during the year in helping Castlecoote tidy towns to make the village beautiful. The children grew sun flowers to be placed in the children’s garden in the church car park.



Pyjama day



All the children took part in pyjama day as part of a fund raiser for Adam Reddington.





Roscommon Drama Festival Essay Competition

Roscommon drama festival ran an essay competition for 5th & 6th classes in schools in Co. Roscommon. This was based on the titles of the plays in the festival for 2015.  Erin Cleary was the winner from Fuerty N.S






Eason’s Spelling Bee

As part of the spelling bee competition 5th & 6th class students took part in spelling tests.  The best result came from Eva Neilan who went on to represent Fuerty N.S.  Congratulations to Eva who reached the semi-finals in the Roscommon heats of the competition



Halloween Fun

The pupils and teachers enjoyed a fun Halloween dress up day at the end the term.  Well done to all the teachers and pupils for a great effort.
 


Other activities


·       Infants – 2nd attended a performance of ‘Human Child’ in the arts centre
·       3rd - 6th swimming lessons
·       3rd – 6th safer cycle initiative in conjunction with Roscommon county council and the RSA
·       All classes participated in an 8 weeks of gymnastics
·       Infants – 2nd hand writing competition
·       5th & 6th Garda Siochana road safety poster competition
·       3rd – 6th county councils recycling colouring competition
·       5th & 6th girls attended the Convents  musical ‘Oliver’
·       David Silke gave a talk to the students about bees
·       3rd -6th classes were given a talk on local history by Albert Siggins


Parent Association Talks 


Information evenings on the parents association and the mental health and well-being of children was organised for any parents wishing to attend.

Christmas Fair

A fund raising evening was held in the community centre. The children were busy in the days leading up to the event making treats and decorations to be sold on the evening.  The children all sang Christmas carols after mass




Confirmation


 

Congratulations to the girls and boys from 6th class who were confirmed by Bishop Kevin Doran on Tuesday April 14th. Well done to Erin Cleary, Ciaran Corcoran, Robyn Farrell, Lily Fox, Ethan Glennon, Michelle Hanley, Jack Hardiman-Chmbers, Jade McCormack, Caoimhe Murray and Eva Neilan
 



First Communion



The children of 2nd class made their first communion on the last Sunday of May 2015. Congratulation to Michael Corcoran, John Duke, Keelan Duke, Noah Farrell, Luke Hanley, Aimee Lavin, Ella Morrison, Emily Mulhern, Oisin Mullen, Bryan Murray, Evan Murray and Tara O’Brien.



Fancy Dress Walk

A 5km/10km fancy dress walk/run was held on the 15th of March.  The children designed posters to be used to promote the event. A fun afternoon was had by all








Sport
The 5th/6th class boys topped their group in the hurling.  After just losing out in the A semi-final by 2 points, the lads went on to play in the B final.  They were successful in this beating Creggs on the day.  Joint captains Ethan and Ciaran accepted the cup


The footballers topped the group stage of the competition, but lost out narrowly to a team from Whitehall in the semi-finals.  It was the first time to get this far in many years.

The 4th- 6th class girls competed in Co Roscommon Cumann no mBunscol football competition.  They won all the games to help them reach the semi-finals, only to be beaten by a very strong team from Corrigeenroe.


Unfortunately the girls were knocked out in the first round of the camogie.

Students also took part in the Mark Fitzmaurice memorial soccer and football tournament.  They did well in this only losing out by 3 points to the winners.

Well done to Thomas Higgins in reaching the last 8 in the Connaught U14 boys’ golf team.  Wishing Thomas the best of luck for the rest of the competition.

Thank you and congratulations to Seamus Murray, Tom Reddington and Sean O’Brien for training the teams and supporting them through the competitions. Well done to all on their achievements

A sports evening was held on the 17th of June 2015.  Children and parents enjoyed a fun filled evening of sporting activates and dancing
